WPLUG will have a General User Meeting and presentation on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at IBM Pittsburgh.

Whether you’re disturbed by the NSA surveillance scandal or indifferent because you suppose the government has no interest in you, it should make you think about the security of your personal information. You probably work with online banking, personal correspondence, and other sensitive data that certain people just shouldn’t see. What can you do to protect it? At WPLUG’s July general user meeting, we’ll be exploring a powerful new way: Bitcoin, the pseudo-anonymous cryptocurrency based on open source code.

Wi-Fi access at IBM Pittsburgh is limited. Please register in advance if you would like to use it. Registration will NOT be available the day of the event.

Schedule for the Day

1:30pm - Doors open, set up
2:00pm - Presentations begin
3:30pm - Meeting ends, everyone out. We may hang out for a little while afterward.

Speaker/Presentation

Name: Daniel, organizer of Pittsburgh Bitcoin Users Meetup group

Title: Introduction to Bitcoin

Bitcoin is a decentralized cryptocurrency based in open source software. How does it work? How can you get started?

Daniel has flown all over the world to meet with movers and shakers in the community, including the people who run Mt. Gox. He’s in the process of filming a documentary with his brother called “the Rise and Rise of Bitcoin.” Check it out at bitcoindoc.com.
