The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Western Pennsylvania Linux Users Group was held on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at 7:07 PM, at 6374 Morrowfield Avenue in Squirrel Hill, the regular presiding officer being in the chair and the Secretary being present. The minutes of the January 6, 2009 meeting were approved as read.

The Chair reported that he has not yet contacted the committees to obtain their selection of committee chairs. He also reported meeting with Elwin Green regarding a community center which is being planned for Homewood. One possible feature of this would be a computer lab, and the potential for WPLUG to assist in setting up this lab and training system administrators was discussed.

The Vice-Chair reported that he is actively looking for places and media to announce upcoming WPLUG events and asked for suggestions. Craigslist, the local Indymedia web site, the Pittsburgh Technology Council, and City Paper were all discussed as possibilities.

The Secretary reported that WPLUG currently has 24 members. He also reported that a page has been created on the wiki for officers to create a checklist of duties.

The Treasurer reported that there is currently $173 cash on hand and $507.87 in the checking account as of December 26. He also reported receipt of a $25 check yet to be deposited and a renewal notice for the PO box. David Kraus moved "that the Treasurer be authorized to spend $72 to renew the Post Office box for one year." The motion was adopted. The Treasurer noted that he has not yet visited Dollar Bank to learn about their account options. He provided some information about applying for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service, and indicated he would seek additional advice on the subject when visiting the bank.

The Internet Committee reported that some progress is being made in developing a membership database tied into the wiki but that it currently is still in a pre-alpha stage.

The Public Relations Committee reported that it has not yet obtained quotes for business cards but will be doing so in the near future.

The meeting adjourned at 8:07 PM.
