Introduction

The Carnegie Mellon University Gates Center of Computer Science is on the main campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was occupied in August 2009 with the interconnected Hillman Center. The two buildings make up the Gates-Hillman complex.

Western PA Linux Users Group will meet there on March 7, 2011 for a site visit of the Red Hat labs.

Gathering Spot

We will meet at the Tazza D'Oro coffee shop aka "The R Cafe" inside the Gates Center on the 3rd floor.

The R Cafe is immediately as you walk into the 3rd floor main entrance of the Gates Center. Click here for a photo of the actual door.

Getting Into the Building

[http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=gates+center+pittsburgh&sll=43.153333,-78.691111&sspn=0.030556,0.063858&g=gates+center&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Gates+Center+for+Computer+Science,+Pittsburgh,+Allegheny,+Pennsylvania+15213&ll=40.444077,-79.94479&spn=0.001849,0.004823&t=h&z=18 This map] pinpoints the Hillman half of the complex. Note that Hillman is closer to Forbes Avenue and that Gates is closer to Newell Simon Hall.

For those familar with Newell Simon Hall, the Gates third floor is at the same geographic elevation.

This photo shows the best door at the end of the black-top path. To the right, in that same photo, is Newell Simon Hall.
